Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority Awarded $688,985 Funding in Fight Against Homelessness
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently announced award of $688,985 in McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Funds to Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority (BCACHA).
BCACHA Executive Director Deanna Watson said the funds provide support for continuation of 5 successful Supportive Housing and Shelter Plus Care Programs directed by BCACHA Housing Programs Manager Katie Kilgrow. The programs aim to move individuals and families from homelessness to independent living by providing services that help participants increase skills and income, make informed decisions, and maintain a stable living environment.
The grants are awarded via HUD’s competitive Continuum of Care grant process, which requires local level comprehensive planning to address a community’s homelessness. BCACHA Grant Programs Coordinator Jillian Patterson said BCACHA proactively coordinated with local city, county, and state agencies along with numerous service providers to apply for the funding.
According to Patterson, BCACHA will administer the grants and provide housing services to approximately 70 eligible homeless individuals or families while local sponsors Terry Reilly Health Services, EL-ADA Community Action Partnerships, Neighborhood Housing Services of Idaho, Supportive Housing and Innovative Partnerships, and Safe Place Ministries, will provide supportive services to over 200 expected participants. Additionally, numerous individuals and agencies support the programs by providing free or reduced rate goods and services.
“Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority strives to be a leader in addressing our community’s homeless issues,” said Watson. “I am pleased to see the efforts of so many come together to provide ongoing support for these programs. Such diligence is vital to the success of ending homelessness in our community.”
