Where would you like to be in 5 years? Let the Family Self Sufficiency Program help you get there!
What is FSS? A voluntary program offered to section 8 housing participants that provides tools and encouragement to help you reach self-sufficiency! The final goal of your plan must include finding and maintaining full-time employment, which will lead you to freedom from government assistance programs and to economic independence!
How do I get started? After completing a Pre-enrollment form, we will contact you for an appointment when a slot becomes available. You will then meet with an FSS Coordinator to sign a Contract of Participation and create an Individual Training and Services Plan tailored specifically to your needs and future goals. This plan will be the roadmap used on your journey toward achieving self-sufficiency.
What are some of the benefits? Working with local agencies and community partners, we provide access to resources that will help you remove barriers and achieve your goals. We provide ongoing support, information and assistance by linking you with services such as career counseling & testing, training & educational programs, job search & job retention assistance. We also offer workshops on banking, budgeting, credit repair, money management, parenting, home ownership, and other topics as needed.
What about the savings account? As your earned income increases, an escrow account is established in your name that will earn tax-free savings as long as you continue to earn wages. If you successfully complete your goals within the 5-year time frame, you are entitled to the escrow dollars. Some families use this money to move to home ownership. Your FSS Coordinator can link you to other community programs that may offer down payment assistance, provide matching grant funds, or other resources needed for purchasing a home.
