Section 8 participants moving out of the Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority’s jurisdiction:
- Participating Section 8 participants must have successfully completed their initial lease term (12 months) and must be in good standing both with their landlord and the Housing Authority. The participant must provide their landlord with a written 30-day notice of their intent to vacate and provide a copy of that notice to the Housing Authority. The participant must then notify their Housing Representative that they wish to exercise portability and transfer their Housing Choice Voucher to another PHA’s jurisdiction.
- The participant must then provide the Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority with the name, address, phone number, and contact person of the receiving PHA.
- The Housing Representative will review the participant’s request to transfer their Voucher according to the Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority Administrative Plan and HUD regulations.
- The Housing Representative will re-determine the family’s income and household composition and require that the family attend a Voucher Briefing to receive a new voucher to move.
- After the family has attended the Voucher Briefing, the Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority will mail all portability paperwork to the receiving PHA.
- Families that have received a Housing Choice Voucher but have not leased up under the Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority’s jurisdiction must qualify under the receiving PHA’s income limits.
